All Indian building material manufacturers wishing to export to Europe are required to comply with the requirements of the European Union Directive 89/106/EEC (approved by all Member States) and to affix a CE marking.
The CE Marking is a mandatory certification for all construction products. Unlabelled products cannot be exported to Europe and incorporated or installed in buildings.
The CE marking is neither a product certification nor the equivalent of a quality product certification issued by a certification body: it is a label that certifies the product’s compliance with the European legislation as well as with requirements included in the applicable Harmonized European standards. (ndr: Harmonized European Standard is a technical word)
Therefore a product may be freely circulated inside the European Union.
The manufacturer has the responsibility of ensuring the accuracy of the data on the CE marking and then placing the product on the market.
The Attestation Of Conformity (AOC) of a product with technical specifications can be done by combining the following methods depending on the requirements of the particular product or group of products:
| System 1+ | Certification of product conformity, without audit testing. |
| System 1 | Certification of product conformity, without audit testing. |
| System 2+ | Certification of Factory Production Control (FPC), with continuous surveillance. |
| System 2 | Certification of Factory production control (FPC), without surveillance. |
| System 3 | Initial type testing. |
| System 4 | Manufacturer’s tasks only. |
